One-Pot Cheesy Sausage Pasta

A comforting dish that combines pasta, Italian sausage, and creamy mozzarella all cooked in one pot for easy preparation and clean-up.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces penne pasta preferably ridged to hold sauce
  • 1 pound Italian sausage mild or spicy, depending on preference

  • 1 medium onion, diced sweet yellow recommended
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes either seasoned or plain works
  • 2 cups chicken broth low-sodium for better control
  • 1 cup heavy cream for creaminess
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese freshly shredded melts better
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Fresh basil for garnish

Equipment

  • 10-inch cast-iron skillet

Method
 

  1. Brown the Italian sausage in a cast-iron skillet over medium heat until caramelized.
  2. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in canned tomatoes, chicken broth, and penne pasta, bring to a gentle boil, then simmer.
  4. Fold in heavy cream and mozzarella cheese until melted and creamy.
  5. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
