- Line an 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper, allowing some overhang.
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and milk over medium heat. Stir continuously until it reaches a gentle boil, then boil for about 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Slowly add powdered sugar, mixing until no lumps remain. Fold in chopped nuts if using.
- Pour mixture into prepared dish and smooth the top with a spatula. Let cool for about an hour, then refrigerate until firm.
- Once chilled, lift fudge from the dish and cut into squares.

Ensure to boil the sugar mixture for the full 2 minutes for the best texture.
